Inner thoughts & societal experiences.
Functioning as a solo think tank, my practice visually communicates the relationship between natural physical laws and my lived experiences as a young millennial in a rapidly changing world.
With a framework based on fundamental principles in process engineering such as conservation of mass, concentration gradients, material properties & flow paths, my practice bridges phenomena that govern the natural world to explore and deconstruct complex physical and emotional interconnected systems to their most elemental shapes and behaviors.
Influenced by artistic movements such as dada, abstract expressionism, and minimalism, I use reductive shapes, configurations, and symmetry as motifs that work within each piece to describe social experiences in the world today. My work evolves in a spatially deliberate and reflective nature, using vivid, effective colors in highly textural brushstrokes.
Bio
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. Currently based in Los Angeles and New York.
Angelica Gomez is an interdisciplinary artist engaged in painting and action-based art making. Her background in process engineering informs her creative practice to explore human and environmental interrelationships as behavioral systems of inputs and outputs. Angelica received a Bachelor of Science in Medicinal Chemistry in 2016 from the University at Buffalo and worked as a bioprocess engineer until 2024 where she worked on process optimization in biologics development. Through her art, Angelica strives to represent elements such as empathy and critical thinking to explore the complexities of emotional reflection around themes such as urban ecological and environmental changes. In 2024, Angelica joined UCLA’s CounterForce Lab as a researcher and thinker; her contributions explore the emotional response to ecological crises within urban spaces and the fundamental interrelationships between nature and human behavior.
